Finitas are delighted to be assisting a Middlesbrough based Council with the recruitment of a permanent Chief Accountant.

Reporting to the Head of Finance and Investment, you will lead the technical accounting and financial control side of the Council's finance strategy. The role will include but by no means be limited to:

Working with finance business partners on the budgeting for and monitoring of the revenue budget and investment strategy

• The key responsibilities of this post are as follows:
• Deputise for the Head of Finance and Investment as required
• Lead and supervise the work of the central finance team
• Ensuring the integrity and development of the Council's financial systems and processes
• Planning and delivery of the annual statement of accounts
• Leading on the technical accounting agenda to ensure that the Council's accounts and government returns are in line with statute, the CIPFA Code of Practice on local authority accounting and relevant accounting standards
• Managing the Council's banking and treasury management arrangements

To be suitable for this role you will be a qualified Accountant with extensive experience in leading and managing a team. Experience with Local Authority is preferred but experience of the wider public sector may still be considered.
